Was The Messenger Illiterate?

People generally translate the word 'Ummi' as the one who can neither read nor write, and which gives the impression that Muhammad (peace on him) was illiterate and remained so until the end of his life.

In 29:47, it is mentioned that “thus we have sent down the book to you…"

In 29:48, "Neither did you read any book before it, nor did you write any with your right hand…”

The words ‘before it’ mean that Muhammad (peace on him) did not read or write before the revelation, the way the Jewish and Christian religious men could. This implies that after the revelation, he could read and write well!

Other meanings of ‘Ummi’ also need to be considered.

In 2:78, the word ‘Ummiyyoon’ has been explained as “people who know not the Book’.

In 3:20 and 3:75, the word ‘Ummiyyeen’ is used in contrast to ‘those who were given the scripture’. Also see 62:2.

Now, 'Ummi’ not only means ‘one who cannot read and write’ but also means ‘one who does not have the knowledge of the scripture’ and ‘one who is not among those who were given the scripture’.

Hence, Muhammad (peace on him), before the revelation, neither had knowledge of the scripture (as a learned man would) nor he was among those who were given the scripture (not from the Jews or the Christians). While it is true that he was not a totally literate man who could not read or write before the Qur'an was revealed, afterwards he could do both.

The very mention of ‘IQRA’ (read) ‘ALLAMA’ and ‘QALAM’ (pen) in the very first revelation (96:1-5) place great emphasis on the Messenger to learn to read and write. Hence, he could not have turned a blind eye to a matter of such significance—after all he was going to be dictated by Allah to put in writing the entire Qur'an.

Remember, that the Messenger (peace on him) travelled far and wide as a caravan leader (successful businessman). Anyone who disputes the above assertions may reread the Quran very carefully because the unbelievers are shown accusing the Messenger for 'having written the Book with his own hands'.

The verses in question do not say that the messenger of Allah could NOT or did NOT read a book beforehand but that he did NOT read a revealed Scripture before the Qur'an.

The Ahadith that show some scribes writing whatever they felt (deliberately introducing errors in the Qur’an) while the Messenger approved it all, are forgeries.

How is it possible that the Lord of the visible and invisible worlds would allow such a thing to occur? In short, the Messenger of Allah had to write it all down in his own hand (in addition to memorizing it or having others copy it).

Pity the poor illiterate mullahs who think the Messenger of Allah (peace on him) was just like them. It is through such perversion of religion that men have come to believe that blowing themselves up and others with bombs is the Allah’s Way (sunnah Allah).

“And they say: ‘Tales of the ancients, which he has got them written down: and they are dictated before him morning and evening.’” (25:5)

Dirty American Hippies Love Lahore

Last Friday, the law enforcement personnel impounded in the Lahore Cantonment a vehicle used by American nationals and which bore a fake registration number. They stopped the vehicle for a routine check near Sherpao Bridge, but the American citizens, including a woman, refused inspection, claiming they were Americans and were not subject to snap checking.

Can you believe this arrogance? Such snap answers in aggressive nasal American accent normally unnerve weaker nations. Perhaps our security forces need to read the same rights that the American police routinely recite while arresting criminals. But let us not blame our own country in a hurry; perhaps our security-men only wanted to check if the foreigners had the right tools (for an inside job) in their toolkit. As we know already, American Dollars, American arms and American men-in-blackwater work fulltime to improve how God made this planet.

Anyway, the argument between our side and the suspected Americans side went on for a long time, the law enforcement personnel called senior officials to the scene for further action. This provided our side with a great opportunity to shake the white hands of the aggressive visitors.

Further questioning revealed that the vehicle bore a bogus licence number plate while the passengers allegedly indulged in a prohibited activity: taking pictures of the cantonment area.

One might say that questioning such folks is poor diplomacy but maybe our side, overcome with joy, only stopped them to enquire about the wellbeing of their families, a gesture which the other side reciprocated by not enquiring about the wellbeing of the families on our side and instead dialling the phone number of a globally unpopular uncle: Sam.

Sources said, an official of the American embassy also arrived at the spot and secured the release of the passengers, but the police refused to let the vehicle go as it carried a fake number plate.

Such was the loving embrace the two sides indulged in that they went on arguing in public for a long time. A colonel of the ISPR said the vehicle was ‘stopped for routine checking and only the police could comment on any further details.’ By this comment, he meant they wished to check the car’s oil level and wipe its windscreen without taking a dime or a nickel worth of aid from the guests.

The cantonment’s supervisory police officer said ‘the police had impounded the vehicle, but its passengers had been allowed to leave. So far, it is not clear if the vehicle bore a fake number plate, and hence no case has been registered against any one; things would be ascertained after thorough investigations.’

The eastern mode of police investigation will surely make the New Scotland Yard invent a new yardstick. Never one to be left behind, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif told reporters that he had asked for a report on the incident involving American nationals since it was the second such incident in four days at the same place. On December 8, law enforcement officials stopped two vehicles carrying officials of the American consulate, holding them for about three hours when they refused to subject their vehicles to an oil check and cleaning of dirty windscreen.

The Americans always spread themselves too thin. It is a fact that the American embassy staff members goes to great lengths to rescue citizens who cause troubles in foreign lands, for example, the numerous rapes committed by American troops in Okinawa, Japan. They believe in rescuing their own citizens no matter what they are up to, while taking extraordinary measures to extradite foreign nationals to notorious far-flung camps for illegal incarceration and torture.

I remember the good times when dirty American hippies roamed Lahore’s streets without ever being bothered. With this silly G-WOE (global war of error) all around us, Lahorites are vigilant enough to spot ‘stupid white men’ (to borrow Michael Moore’s term) wearing dark shades and expensive clothing, travelling in black cars and unwilling to stop when asked. Perhaps the suspected Americans were the same dirty hippies who grew up to become employees of even dirtier covert agencies. Everyone knows that is true.

U.S. Suspects and the CERN Physicist

The five US nationals arrested from Sargodha on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks in the country, revealed that they intended to attack the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant and other important installations in the country.

Sargodha Cantonment Station House Officer Amir Sherazi said the terrorists disclosed their plans during interrogation. Meanwhile, the police have won more time from a court to interrogate the five Americans suspected of using the Internet to contact militants.

Sargodha District Police Officer Usman Anwar said the court had agreed to one more 10-day remand for the Americans so that an investigation of their suspected activities could continue.

“We got it by telling the court that we want to further interrogate them on offences including contacting a (banned) militant group, offering their services for terrorist acts, using computers for that purpose and inciting (terrorism) inside Pakistan,” he said speaking over the telephone.

He did not elaborate on whether the men wanted to encourage others to carry out violence inside Pakistan, or in Afghanistan, where officials said they intended to fight. The case will fan fears in Western countries about the sons of immigrants from Muslim countries who are attracted to militancy made easy by the Internet. The suspects are under investigation for links with the other banned militant groups.

So, what will be the result? All those who have kicked this country in the face to settle abroad to earn Dollars will now be hounded, watched and interrogated. No matter how good they attempt to look, they will become despised citizens in a country that loves teaching everyone lessons of equality and freedom.

Fate might have been kinder to the emigrants who will now shed tears of blood before finally returning to their beloved country as the forgotten generation.

Terrorism is not a local or regional phenomenon; the disease has spread globally. The movies Hollywood makes to entertain us are in fact programmes to programme us (prepare us) for what is to come years from now. Once the results of the evil policies are seen everywhere, the sheeple (sheep-like people) think that the Hollywood scriptwriters are nothing short of prophets and great seers. That is not the truth.

Hollywood is a tool to dehumanize humanity, glorify crime, make us immune to bloodshed, and keep us glued to the 60-inch home theatre screen. It is the world’s greatest racket, supplier of stars and starlets to politicians and influential person. It is the Sodom and Gomorrah of our age bent upon playing the role of an unstoppable devil.

All those mind-warping movies about Asian terrorists with computers in caves, Asian traders of nuclear weapons, all of it is a figment of the criminal Hollywood scriptwriters’ imagination. The bad art they produce has forced life to imitate it. Imagine, how would they hound us, had we made movies to spread such immorality and criminality; think how they would have dragged us to the courts for revealing detailed plans of abduction, arson, destruction and blackmail? Who Muslim state will sue Hollywood now?

The playing field is uneven; it is your moral and religious duty to understand what is happening to you through the ‘very entertaining’ but controlled mass media.
